Your voice is needed now in the debate over our country’s priorities

Use your voice to force the Senate to slow down and reject an approach to federal taxes that would:

  • Deliver the greatest share of the tax cut to the rich and profitable corporations:  The richest 1 percent of taxpayers in North Carolina would receive more than 25 percent of the tax cut.
  • Increase the tax load for middle income taxpayers:  Overall, 13 percent of North Carolina taxpayers would see their tax load increase under the Senate proposal.
  • Grow the deficit:  An additional $1.5 trillion would be added to the deficit over the next decade.

The Senate plan puts forward the wrong priorities that will hurt our state and our economy.  Here are three ways  this tax plan falls short of what is needed to truly strengthen the middle class and grow a stronger economy:

  • The Senate tax plan repeals the individual mandate, which will result in an increase in the number of uninsured by at least 13 million Americans and the destabilization of the health care market for everyone.  Cutting health care coverage for millions is being done to pay for making permanent corporate income tax rate cuts.
  • The Senate tax plan makes the corporate income tax rate cuts permanent while allowing the provisions attempting to target the middle income taxpayers—the increased standard deduction, child tax credit increase and lower individual tax rate—to expire after eight years.
  • Just one in three children in working families would receive a token increase in the Child Tax Credit under the Senate plan.  Meanwhile, the Senate plan would put in place deep cuts to the estate tax, a tax cut on business “pass-through” income and a corporate rate reduction.

This Thanksgiving recess, tell your Senator that this plan will hurt your community and ask for their opposition to the bill.
