TAKE ACTION! Tell Lawmakers to Establish Protections for Immigrants, Fix the Broken Immigration System

Our immigrant communities are under attack. Not only are our undocumented friends and neighbors living in constant fear of deportation, the Trump administration is systematically taking away protection from millions of immigrants in this country who have been granted permission to live and work here lawfully for years. The Trump administration has announced:

  • An end date to the protections for DACA holders or “Dreamers” who arrived in the U.S. as children and
  • Terminations of protection for hundreds of thousands of immigrants with “temporary protected status” (TPS) from Haiti, Nicaragua, Honduras, and El Salvador.

Just this week, the president used vulgar and offensive terms when describing TPS holders’ countries and suggested he would prefer northern European immigrants. There can be no denying that racism is at the heart of the president’s determinations to exclude TPS immigrants.

In some cases, these immigrants have been living in the U.S. lawfully for nearly 20 years. They have purchased homes, worked lawfully, and raised children as our friends and neighbors. More than 40,000 North Carolinians could lose their status if both of these programs are allowed to expire.

The time is now for Congress to act to protect these communities.

Send a message to your North Carolina Representative and Senators: We care about our immigrant friends and neighbors. Their contributions to our communities and economies matter, and protections for these immigrants should not come at the cost of deportations of their family members or billions spent on militarization of our border.
