Take Action! Tell NC legislative leaders to stop tax cuts, invest to thrive

Tell NC House & Senate Conference Chairs to Stop Tax Cuts, Invest to Thrive

In the upcoming week, lawmakers on the Conference Committee on the Budget will decide on the priorities for our state over the next two years.  In light of the needs in our growing state and the uncertainty created by President Trump’s proposed federal budget, our lawmakers’ choices will have a huge impact on our daily lives.

It is time to make your voice heard.

The House and Senate’s budget proposals are different in important ways. But they share a common missed opportunity to focus on public investments that can make NC thrive. Instead, both proposals continue to cut taxes, after years of tax cuts that have primarily benefited the wealthy.

Tell the House and Senate Conference Chairs to stop cutting taxes and start investing for our future.

Right now, both proposals lack these actions that are important to strengthening our economy in the long-term:

  • Investing in smaller class sizes so that children can learn without losing important educational opportunities or seeing cuts in other areas of the classroom;
  • Fully funding pre-Kindergarten for every eligible 4-year-old in the state;
  • Allocating increased state dollars to develop affordable housing; and
  • Adequately funding the rebuilding effort in NC after Hurricane Matthew in the face of unmet needs.

We could meet these priorities and others if policymakers simply agreed to stop cutting taxes and committed to building a stronger foundation for families in the face of federal uncertainty.

Tell the Budget Conference Chairs to commit to building thriving communities.
